The West Cork Campus is a dedicated further education college in Skibbereen providing relevant programmes in a supportive and friendly environment. Graduates are facilitated to secure relevant employment and take advantage of opportunities for further study. All the courses on offer this coming September are QQI accredited and quality assured. The college has close links with local employers to ensure that the education and training provision is in keeping with job opportunities in the West Cork region.
In addition, the educational qualifications are ideal for anybody who is considering higher education (HETAC Level 7 or 8). Each of the offered courses is linked to relevant 3rd level courses, in both Universities and Institutes of Technology, through the Cork College of Commerce Links System. In fact, in conjunction with CIT, a HETAC Level 7 Business degree will be offered at the West Cork Campus in September. Anybody can apply for this programme, but QQI Level 5 or 6 business graduates can gain valuable exemptions from a number of modules.
Students are supported and encouraged to progress in their studies; availing of individual career guidance appointments, college visits/speakers, specialised workshops in the preparation of college applications, job/college interviews, etc.
The Work Experience programme is an integral part of every course at the West Cork Campus. Students are encouraged and assisted to make contact with potential employers. The college cooperates with employers providing graduates with relevant placements and creating links and opportunities for employment. Students benefit from placement as an essential part of their learning and are provided with unique insights into working in a business/service provider relevant to a particular area of study.
The college is very proud of the supportive environment of the West Cork Campus: experienced tutors; excellent resources, including up-to-date technology and a Student Support Service for those with particular educational needs.
The West Cork Campus cooperates with Local Link to provide transport from neighbouring towns, based on student demand. Services from Bantry and Clonakilty to and from the college have been enjoyed by students for the past two years.
