Dunmanway based, Independent councillor, Mr. Declan Hurley has warmly welcomed the allocation of €20,000 announced by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs yesterday, towards the re-location of the Dunmanway Playground to provide a new children’s activity zone.
According to Mr. Hurley, “This allocation is a tremendous boost to the people of Dunmanway and towards the re-location and upgrading of their playground, as the existing playground has been the victim of vandalism and misuse over the years and had prevented the playground from being enjoyed by children to its full potential.
“This relocation is coming about as the new swimming pool is to be built on the current location of the playground. The new children’s activity zone will provide a state of the art play area, which will incorporate Swings, Springer’s, Blazer Seesaw, Sarsurfer, Spinner Bowl and Supernova along with Senior and Junior Play Structures.”
According to Mr. Hurley, “The proposed site of the relocated new children’s activity zone is on the second tennis court on the eastern side of the access road to the town park and has been chosen because no ground preparation works will be required as the required surface for the zone can be placed on top of the existing surface and is also in close proximity to the recently installation outdoor gum equipment.
This upgrading of the existing playground amenity will greatly enhance the quality of life for the children and families who use it on a daily basis. I am also delighted, that there will be co-funding forthcoming from Cork County Council, towards the provision of this activity zone,” he added.
Meanwhile, Cllr Hurley has welcomed the significant progress, which has been made with the Dunmanway Swimming Pool. “Construction work is to commence in the on the new swimming pool in the first quarter of 2014. Dunmanway has been long overdue an upgrade and this progress now has culmination of many years of hard work on my behalf in bringing the project to this stage,” he concluded.
