After months of hard work by committee members and volunteers, the Courtmacsherry community-run shop, the first-of-its-kind in West Cork, has opened before the June Bank Holiday weekend.

The committee is delighted with the support received to-date though voluntary labour and the sale of shares.

Volunteers are needed to run the shop on a daily basis and anyone who is interested in becoming involved and can spare some time should email courtmacshop@gmail.com.

The village of Courtmacsherry has been without a shop since last summer.

After receiving the go-ahead from the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society at the beginning of the year to set up the community-run co-operative shop, a local committee has been working tirelessly to get the initiative off the ground.

The support of locals and visitors is key in the continued success of the venture, which will sell a range of grocery items including fresh produce and confectionary.
