A West Cork-wide simultaneous quiz will take place on March 23 to raise funds for these life-saving kits.
Dr. Jason van der Velde of West Cork Rapid Response (WCRR) has now been joined by 12 volunteer emergency responders, each with their own emergency equipment kits, to help cover large areas of our rural community. Each kit costs €6,000 and contains lifesaving equipment, including a monitoring and defibrillation system, so local fundraising efforts have been stepped up.
The responders, including paramedics and advanced paramedics, who have already signed up to volunteer in the off duty period are from Belgooly, Bandon, Skibbereen, Drimoleague, Reenascreena, Coppeen, Clonakilty, Ardfield, Timoleague and Bantry. There is also the possibility of getting emergency service volunteers onboard from Schull, Macroom, Castletownbere and Eyeries.
WCRR is 10 years old this year and has made an effective, positive impact on West Cork and beyond. Dr. Jason commented that this new development is “a logical expansion of the service already provided by WCRR and enables professionals who are free to respond to a bad accident in the vicinity of their homes.”
The responders operate within a 10km radius of their homes and have answered 13 life-threatening calls already in 2018.
After such a successful ‘Jeep for Jason’ campaign in 2014, where the whole of West Cork got behind the project to provide Dr. Jason with an emergency response vehicle, WCRR are now asking everyone to please support fundraising for the cost of the kits.
Coming up is an ‘Answer The Call Quiz’ in every town/village/community in West Cork on Friday March 23 at 8.30pm where everyone will be at the quiz at the same time, answering the same questions!
