Bite into the most delicious food West Cork has to offer this September as the Taste of West Cork Food Festival takes place from September 5 to 14. ‘A Taste of West Cork’ Festival brings together a unique mix of food markets and demonstrations, cookery competitions, brunches and banquets, special dinners, food-tastings, talks and exhibitions. To kick off the festival Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa will host a Taste of West Cork evening on September 5 and showcase the best West Cork has to offer.
Guests will first be treated to a drinks reception and a talk from seaweed expert Jim Kennedy on the benefits of seaweed, which will feature in some of the night’s courses. From beauty benefits to food facts, Jim will fill you with all the seaweed knowledge you need before you sample the seaweed in your meal. As guests then enjoy a stunning seven course tasting menu, Head Chef Adam Medcalf will take them on a tour of West Cork through food showcasing the best of their producers, as well as the hotel’s own artisan produce. This culinary feast will open foodies eyes to local businesses and produce and will be refreshingly complemented by wines from the hotels cellar.
With most ingredients being sourced within a 50km radius of the hotel, Head Chef Adam Medcalf’s unique feast will give guests a true ‘Taste of West Cork. While the menu is top secret at the moment, previous menus have included Inchegeela Rabbit- Roasted Loin of Inchegeela Rabbit, caught by Dan McCarty and filled with Clonakilty Black pudding, Barryroe Root Vegetable Broth, Parsnip and Poppy Crisp; Ring Pier Shellfish — Baked Ring Pier Crabmeat dressed in Coconut and Lime, Lobster, Ummera Smoked Salmon, Shellfish Reduction, Lemon and Caper dressing; Pear Sorbet — Pear Sorbet with Macroom Mills Oatmeal Granola and a Cinnamon Sherbet.
Tickets are priced at €65 and for those that want to make a day of it Seawater Baths are included for €85. The Seawater Baths at Inchydoney create a calming and sedative effect. Through the natural elements of the seawater they provide essential minerals to cleanse and rejuvenate the body.
