The Liss Ard team has been a hive of activity over the past few months with preparations for the recently launched newly designed ‘Restaurant at Liss Ard, which is now welcoming patrons for casual dining.

The estate, which joined the respected Blue Book properties in 2014, is probably more known for its lush woodland grounds, ideal for retreat goers or those wanting a quiet getaway break from the city surrounds. Others will fondly remember the benefit festivals in the late 90s to support the Liss Ard Foundation with Patti Smith, Nick Cave, Lou Reed and the likes. Younger families might have visited the Liss Ard 2012 festival of music, literature, drama and food.

The Stern family iscontinuing to expand services and facilities such as weddings and group breaks. Also, recently undertaking a pilot scheme, ‘The Well at Liss Ard’, exploring the art of better living through nature, arts and culture – looking at the feasibility and sustainability to run Liss Ard as an inclusive well-being centre for the people of Ireland.

The restaurant and its food are fresh, clean and crisp in a seamless blend of contemporary styles in the surrounds of the old world charm of the house built in the 1850s. The Country House offers informality, personality and style. An impressive circular window affords incredible natural light along the wooden stairway leading down to the restaurant on the lower ground level. The casual dining restaurant is welcoming, bright and has lovely character, including a delightful arch and thick protruding walls intrinsic in the design and structure of a period building. The new and enthusiastic kitchen team continues to support local producers and suppliers with upcoming in-house creations to complement.

The centrally located West Cork estate, merely two minutes drive from the bustling town of Skibbereen, is steadily establishing itself as an up and coming destination venue for intimate and personal groups ideal for weddings. Previous parties were held either in smaller numbers in the main house or larger numbers in a marquee in the Walled Garden. The new ‘Restaurant at Liss Ard’ with steps leading to the gardens behind the house can now accommodate a larger capacity in the main house itself.  It is already generating attention from wedding couples and parties alike, researching affordable luxury alternatives in a more personalised, bespoke and unique avenue for their special occasions and events.

Wedding and party guests will be enchanted with the estate, which boasts a variety of accommodation to suit all preferences. The Country House and Garden Mews comprise of 15 rooms allowing hosts to keep the grounds exclusively theirs. This provides intimacy for immediate family and friends with options to book the Lake Lodge for an additional 10 rooms. There are otherwise plenty of various priced accommodation within minutes should your group be on the larger side.

The 60-acreage of land is a gem of a find with its glistening 40-acre Lake Abisdealy, the James Turrell Irish Sky Garden, ponds and mature woodlands for everyone to wander and ramble at their own pace from dawn till dusk.
