The Winery on Asna Square in Clonakilty has reopened after its makeover in time for the Christmas party season. A new hot Tapas evening menu and improved seating for groups means it’s an ideal spot for party goers who want a relaxed, but still special celebration.

winery2After three years in business, and following the revamp of the square last year, owner Aidan Harte decided it was time for a little change. And having trained at the renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School, he wanted a kitchen that would finally allow him put his exciting menu plans into action. With the help of Edge Architecture, Clonakilty and interior designer Sarah McCarthy, Skibbereen, the results are impressive. But best of all, The Winery has retained all the character and charm that has made it a long time favourite with people throughout West Cork.

Aidan said:  “I wanted to expand my lunch and Tapas menus and offer breakfast but was caught by a lack of kitchen space. A few small changes has made much better use of the space and given me room I needed.”

Breakfast is now available from 9am and includes everything from scones, pastries, omelettes and porridge with in-house fruit compote. To offset any January blues, Aidan will also be offering Sunday brunch after Christmas.

For lunch, choose from soups, tarts, sandwiches, salads and seasonal dishes that currently include Beef Bourguigon and Toulouse Cassoulet.

Aidan added: “Menus are concise, but will be changed regularly with an emphasis on quality, local produce.”

The vibe changes in the evening to Tapas-style dining, which is ideal for an informal night out with friends or for a straight-after-work meet up. Choose from small bites (olives, nuts and anchovies bites); hot Tapas (Patatas Bravas, stuffed peppers, chorizo, mini burgers) or cold Tapas (meats, cheeses and tortillas).

Made for sharing, they all complement the wide choice of wines and beers. Of course excellent coffee from Cork’s Badger & Dodo and great in house cakes are available at any time of the day or night — and taste even better by the blazing fires.

The Winery takes service seriously — but not itself — and Aidan, and his wife Emma and staff always have time for a friendly chat!

Visit them on Asna Square for some festive fun.
