Tasty, healthy, delivered – that’s the tagline of Beano & Ginger, West Cork’s newest catering venture. The women behind this growing success are Beibhinn Kelly and Esther Whelband, both from a background in catering and hospitality. Beibhinn and Esther’s passion for tasty wholesome food and wanting to make it accessible to health-conscious food lovers in West Cork, is what brought this duo together.

The Beano & Ginger Catering Co. is based at the GAA Complex in Ahamilla, Clonakilty where they run a daily lunch delivery service to businesses in Clonakilty; it is an ideal location to have lunch and take a walk on the track, as there is a pick up option for everyone at 12pm daily. In addition, they also offer event catering and have bookings building up nicely for upcoming communions, confirmations and other events.

Their catering menus include hot food options such as cottage pie, lasagne and garlic bread, chicken casserole or beef stew, chicken korma and a selection of other curry dishes. There is also an extensive quiche and salad menu. Additional options include cheese and meat boards, dips, meal-size speciality salads, platters of sandwiches and wraps and homemade soup with a selection of breads. Eaton Mess, lemon meringue pie and chocolate fudge cake are just a few of the sweet options available.

Beano & Ginger’s lunch sandwiches are made with Arbutus breads, generously filled and prepared fresh to order using quality ingredients. There are also a selection of salads including The Tuna with wholemeal pasta, tuna, rocket, cucumber, red onion, salted peanuts, apple, parmesan and a honey and citrus olive oil dressing; The Granny, a mix of butterhead lettuce, home cooked ham, free range egg, tomato, cucumber, beetroot, mayo, smoked paprika and chopped chives (can be ordered with two eggs and no ham for vegetarian option; or the Chopped Power Salad, egg frittatas on a bed of crispy lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, red onions, parsley, olives, feta and bacon, all chopped and combined to make a delicious fresh and nutritious salad served with a ramekin of a light citrus and olive oil dressing (can be ordered with extra frittata instead of bacon for a vegetarian option).

Daily specials might include a roast pepper and carrot soup with cinnamon (not to be missed), a delicious falafel wrap, a carmelised pear and blue cheese salad, a cottage Pie with soft Champ Mash, or carrot noodles with prawn, chicken or tofu – yum! For those with a sweet tooth at lunchtime, there are chocolate brownies, with other options under discussion! All of their delicious fare arrives with their trademark ‘heart’ stamped on the packaging.

Conscious of reducing plastics, Beibhinn and Esther are hoping to become completely plastic-free in their packaging, a process that is already being phased in.

Beano & Ginger have many exciting plans for this fledgling catering company, including bringing their quality produce to some of the great food markets we have here in West Cork. It is with excitement that they are developing their plans whilst continuing to serve delicious lunches every week day to all of the businesses in Clonakilty and carrying out quality catering for events.
