October starts with the New Moon in Libra and this sets a trend for the next couple of weeks leading up to the Full Moon mid month. The Sun Moon combination at New Moon is joined with Jupiter to really give us some cohesion and a sense that we can finally reach those higher ideals we long to achieve in all our most important relationships. The big feel good planet Jupiter moved into Libra in early September so it’s expansive and far-reaching nature is now focused in the sign of balance and harmony. Libra is about all kinds of relationship. Yes, the most intimate and romantic pairings get the benefit of this planet’s attention but so do all other areas of social connection. Personal and business unions at home and in the worldwide community will be enhanced if we allow this theme to dominate our interaction with others. As we look to find the highest positive expression of ourselves in dealing with whoever we connect with in our daily lives we are giving a good reflection of this planetary dynamic and making a contribution to a more harmonious and peaceful world.

With the action planet, Mars now in steady, hardworking Capricorn for the month we can make some definite progress, especially if our goals are in tune with the current cosmic weather. During this time Mars is in a challenging position to Jupiter so our direction and good intentions will be tested to see if we have the ability to follow through and tread the high road over the next few weeks despite any adversity or apparent setbacks.

The highlight of the month is certainly going to be around the Full Moon, as the energy peaks with the Moon joined by the ‘wild card’ planet Uranus in the fire sign of Aries. This unpredictable combination has the potential for major upheaval and sudden breakthroughs. You could experience a personal ‘Eureka!’ moment or there could be an unexpected development in world affairs. Some people may find the energy very chaotic or disturbing, experiencing a breakdown in their own emotional state or find it reflected in equipment or mechanical failures. Whichever way it is encountered the potential is for much needed change that will open up unexpected possibilities for us. It can be exciting or disruptive but it will likely put you on a new and more appropriate path even if you didn’t realise that is what you required!

Despite the high-octane influence of the October Full Moon we should all benefit from the pleasant and supportive vibes given off by Venus moving into Sagittarius from October 18. This gives us an optimistic and buoyant approach to the near future with further emphasis on improving our relationships, holding a higher viewpoint or expanding our understanding of what really matters. Venus’s new position also compliments our other ‘good news’ planet Jupiter through what is known as a mutual reception. This adds extra strength to both the benefic planets and that has to be a bonus as we head towards the second New Moon of the month in Scorpio. This provides a great line-up for Halloween with Neptune casting its otherworldly light on the thin veil between other dimensions and our existence here on planet earth!

The New Moon is at 9° Libra at 1:13am on October 1 and the Full Moon is at 24° Aries at 5:24am on October 16.

Aries: This is a very social time during which you receive all kinds of support from those around you. You may neglect individual concerns in favour of group or social affairs. Relationships are nourished and very much in focus. This is a time for turning away from your personal experiences by responding in a more spiritual and socially minded manner. You can handle your own past, and you want to share, especially through relating to others or in some form of community work. You are able to love and care both for yourself and others now in a more selfless way.

Taurus: Efforts on your part to improve your health, diet, and physical condition win support from others. You are encouraged to attend to nagging details, to get them out of the way. This is a time of discrimination and possible self-examination. You are sorting through the experiences of the last several months, separating the worthwhile from the worthless and, in general, salvaging what you can. An inner drive may find you out and about, feeling like getting together and enjoying the social scene. You may be urged to adopt a more open or impersonal attitude toward yourself or others. Expect important relationships to take up more of your attention now.

Gemini: The trend for you is to be more creative and expressive. Others may urge you on toward a more self-confident and outgoing attitude. The sense of having lived and experienced something with perhaps the dawning of an awareness of who you are and what you have been through these last months. Together with a growing sense of self-discovery you may find yourself very appreciative of your more imaginative qualities. You love and value confidence and expression from the heart: real life drama. Children, animals and physical expression or sports may appeal. Soon your mind will turn towards matters of health as you take stock of your physical condition.

Cancer: The accent is on your home and private life, which could be very rewarding now. Your feelings and sense of security may find you seeking seclusion for a time or losing yourself in past memories. This marks the end of a phase of questioning or sensing your way. Now you can get a grip, secure your position, feel whatever limits there are, and move forward. You have a base to build upon. You have sent down roots. This could be a creative time for you, in particular regarding ideas, concepts, and expressing or communicating yourself. You can put your experience and feelings into words and may be at your most witty and dramatic.

Leo: Your ideas, words and ability to communicate in general is encouraged as you find needed support or backing from those around you such as friends or co-workers. Your ideas and thoughts may be very deep and rich and memories are especially vivid. You are exploring and searching now, linking things together, following up connections, seeing where the ends meet, until finally you find the limits to the sense of connection with others. You may come full circle and once again have a feeling of being on your own without the support you might like to have. Next, begin to consider what aspects of your past you would like to put behind you.

Virgo: You may receive special attention from your friends and people around you. Younger people, women especially and your home environment may contribute somehow to improve your financial standings. You have a sense of backing and reserves. A time when you can respond to new ideas and find a footing upon which you can build a foundation. You may be gathering your resources, with the desire to catch and hold on to vital ideas or impulses you have experienced. Projects benefit from nurturing and growth. Maybe it’s time to reassess the relationships you have with the people in your local area.

Libra: You may feel more self-centred and concerned with appearances than usual. Friends and family unite to support you. You may appear in a good light in a group or social gathering. This is a time to let go of all that is worn out and superficial and to bring what you can across into your personal life. Turn away from the outer world, focusing now on personal and inner changes. New information emerging gets your attention. Your mind and ideas may turn to questions of finance and material support. The result…you could come up with novel ideas relating to money, possessions, values, and the like.

Scorpio: Understanding and generosity may be forthcoming from friends or family. Your own efforts to be helpful and give of yourself are well rewarded. Put up with minor inconveniences and irritations for the sake of what is really important in your life. Sacrifices made now will be more than repaid by an increased ability on your part to bring things across and make dreams real. You could find yourself in an understanding mood, able to appreciate and value the humility and sublimation that goes into any effort with goals, which reach beyond the personal. You may generally feel more inclusive and want to create a harmonious environment by dissolving outworn barriers.

Sagittarius: Community concerns and altruism in general, may get an added boost during this time. People around you unite to make long-term goals and dreams seem more possible, able to be realized. This is a time for resolutions and attempting to put into practice your heartfelt dreams. You may feel moved to cooperate and work together with others on community and long-term projects. You want to make your ideals a reality. Your business sense is enhanced, and you are able to really get down to what is important when it comes to making decisions affecting your material welfare. Superficial possessions may no longer interest you. Instead, things of lasting value appeal.

Capricorn: There is a lot of support for you to make job-related and practical decisions. Your ambitions could receive encouragement from those around you – friends, co-workers, and the like. A time when your practical vision may be at a high, during which you can see what needs to be done and just how to go about doing it. Long-term goals and projects may benefit from the increased clarity you possess. You become aware that a little self-sacrifice and an understanding attitude on your part could have far-reaching effects on your own life-path and general direction during this time period. A little long-suffering and restraint now could really pay off later.

Aquarius: A good time for deep thinking, take a turn toward more lasting values. Right now, you can expect encouragement regarding all things candid and honest. This is a time to concentrate on essentials and to focus on the essence of your situation. ‘Take care of business’ is the key to present moves. A lack of superficiality finds you straight to the point, interested in the truth of things. Perhaps a rekindling of personal philosophical and religious thoughts is required also. The foundations of belief you lay down now are there to be built on in the future.

Pisces: Now is a time for getting down to business, stripping away and discarding non-essentials and even memories of things past. You can separate the wheat from the chaff, concentrating on important things. You are unsentimental about all of this. The situation you are in manages to support some mental or physical housecleaning on your part. There is no place in your life for outworn or flimsy goods, ideas or relationships. Innovations, new and possibly unconventional approaches to being productive or making money are in order now. Your response to life becomes more original and innovative.

Visiting restrictions in place at Bantry General Hospital due to Flu Presentations

Strict visitor restrictions have been put in place with immediate effect at Bantry General Hospital due to the number of patients who have presented with flu like symptoms.

In the interest of patient care and in order to restrict the spread of the flu virus within the hospital, it is necessary with immediate effect to ban all visitors to Bantry General Hospital, with the exception of following: critically ill patients are restricted to one visitor per critically ill patient and confined to visiting times only, and attendance at the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and Local Injury Unit (LIU) should only take place if absolutely necessary, only one relative per patient attending these areas.

The elderly, children, pregnant women or young adults, those with chronic illnesses or vulnerable others are advised not to visit. Outpatient, Day care services and routine hospital admissions are not affected.

All infection control measures are in place and every effort is being made to manage and contain the spread of the flu virus.

Bantry hospital staff are asking people to think about all their care and treatment options and keep ED services for the patients who need them most. This meeting is one of a series being held across the West Cork Garda Division, in association with Operation Thor, the Garda National Anti-Crime Strategy. The purpose of the meeting is to increase the cooperation between Gardai and the retail sector, ensuring that the current low levels of crime in the locality extends past the busy approaching Christmas season. The meeting will be addressed by the local Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Ian O’ Callaghan, who will discuss burglary prevention, shoplifting, fraud, and cybercrime. There will be a particular focus on cash handling and cash exposure of businesses in the run up to the Christmas shopping period.
