Sold out in under one week, with over 750 competitors ranging from four to 74, Skibbereen’s inaugural Glow in the Dark 5k charity fun run will take place on Friday  February 21. The run is non competitive and the organising committee are hoping people will embrace in the spirit of the event by dressing up in costume and wearing as much glow items as possible.

The event will begin at 8pm at the rear of the Paragon Bar, who are the event’s main sponsors along with Skibbereen and District Lions Club. To add to the carnival atmosphere, there will be open-air music in the lead up to the start of the event.

The route will take participants on the outskirts of the town and incorporate the Famine Walk along the Ilen River before returning to the Paragon Bar. An after party will be held in the bar on the night with live music and the organisers are hoping that people will stay in costume and glow for the after party.

COPE Foundation and West Cork Alzheimer’s Association are the two beneficiaries of the event.

The committee hopes that people will come out and support this event by lining the streets as the participants take to the streets in their glow attire; it should be an amazing sight with over 1,000 people on to the streets of Skibbereen between participants and supporters.

The committee would like to advise people that registration is closed and no further entries are being accepted.
