Dunmanway student awarded Gold Medal in Business Studies achievement awards

Cathriona Murphy of Maria Immaculata Community College, Dunmanway has been awarded a gold medal for achieving first place in the country in the 2013 Junior Certificate Business Studies exam.

Cathriona received her medal at the Business Studies Teachers’ Association of Ireland (BSTAI) Business Studies Achievement Awards ceremony, hosted by the Irish Banking Federation at their offices in Nassau Street, Dublin. The awards recognise the achievements of students in Accounting, Economics and Business at Leaving Certificate Level and Business Studies at Junior Certificate Level.

The winners, including Cathriona, were presented with their medals by David Duffy, President, Irish Banking Federation (IBF). Cathriona’s teacher, Ms Claire Kelly and school Principal, Mr Dennis O’Sullivan, were also recognised for this outstanding achievement.

Cathriona is now in Transition Year and is interested in studying medicine when she finishes school. As part of her TY work experience she recently spent time in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, where she particularly enjoyed her time in the pathology department. Her hobbies include piano and guitar and she is also currently taking the last level of training required to become a lifeguard.

A woodland walk will take place on the 22nd June at 7pm in Glengarriff Nature Reserve. This is a great opportunity to learn about woodlands, their plants and wildlife and is an opportunity not to be missed. Glengarriff Nature Reserve was designated as a Nature reserve in 1991, and covers over 300 acres in size. It is a beautiful and unique woodlands containing many different habitats and is owned and managed by NPWS primarily for conservation and amenity purposes.
