Save a date in your diary this May Bank Holiday for the Bandon Half Marathon, 10K and 6 mile walk, which will take place on Saturday, May 3. Now in its fourth year, the event continues to attract large numbers for the three individual events. It is again organised by two of Bandon’s premier sporting clubs, Bandon Rugby and Bandon Athletic Clubs, for which it is a joint fundraiser.  Every cent raised goes directly back into each organisation ultimately benefiting the community as a whole.  The Rugby Club continues to nurture younger players through its Academy and the Athletic Club is pursuing the goal of building an all weather running track in the town. Bandon AC this year celebrates 50 years in existence and with a membership now exceeding 600, it is one of the top clubs in Munster.

Entry for the Half Marathon and 10K is open on line on www.bandonhalfmarathon.com.  Entry for the six-mile walk will be on the morning of the event and includes family entry.  The course remains the same in each case, with a downhill finish along the Castle Road into the town centre and HQ for the event is Bandon Rugby Club. Ample parking will be available here and all participants are welcome back for post race refreshments and prize giving.

Main sponsors Caulfield’s Supervalu, Kinetica, The Edge and Bandon Office Supplies are again on board for this event.  The road races which are AAI approved will be chip timed with prizes in all the usual race categories.  There will be a bonus prize for anybody breaking the existing course record in both the Half Marathon and 10k.  Full information on the website or contact 087 6373 430. Check Facebook Bandon Half Marathon for regular updates.
