Dunmanway Pool gets the green light
Dunmanway based, Independent County Councillor, Mr. Declan Hurley, has welcomed the commitment given by Cork County Council to re-develop the Dunmanway Swimming Pool following many years campaigning for the redevelopment.
According to Mr. Hurley, “the long awaited project drawings were presented at today’s meeting of the Western Committee.
“The project is now ready to go for part eight planning, the drawings will go on public display in the swimming pool, library and the local engineers office. The public will have until September 3 to submit their comments on the drawings”.
Mr. Hurley pointed out, “the Swimming Pool is a vital piece of infrastructure for the town of Dunmanway. It is a huge attraction to the town, and it must be improved and developed accordingly.
“With Government funding of €3.8 million, combined with funding from Cork County Council’s own resources, the total cost of the re-development will be in the region of € 4.5 million,” he said.
“The re-development of the pool will have a strong emphasis on energy savings and sustainability and will consist of refurbishing the existing pool, building an extension to accommodate additional facilities, such as a gymnasium, therapy pool with hoist, steam room and sauna along with a public cafeteria.
“I am happy to confirm that Cork County Council is now proceeding with plans to re-develop the pool as was outline at today’s meeting and I look forward to the project progressing to the next stage," concluded Mr. Hurley.
