The idea of wearing nothing at all has been frowned upon for centuries in western society, yet for over a century groups of people that are comfortable with what nature gave them have formed naturist clubs around the world, which includes three societies in Ireland.

So what is naturism? Contrary to common misconception, naturism is not about sex — it is about the celebration of the human body. Naturists are the same as you or me except they are comfortable socialising with each other without clothes on.

Surely there is more to it isn’t there? The answer to that is no, quite simply anyone you know could be a naturist at heart. Just because they are dressed when you meet them doesn’t mean they want to be — it’s just that society demands that they are. Any naturist will tell you that once everybody is nude, the act of being nude becomes the norm and therefore uninteresting.

‘Dare 2 Bare’ has formed to try and find the closet naturists among the good people of West Cork. The aim of the group is not to single out anyone but to organise events where those who enjoy the skin they are in can meet and socialise with other likeminded people.

If you are amongst those who have considered naturism or practice naturism at home please feel free to contact Dare 2 Bare on 087 672 3376 or email dare2bare@live.ie for information on upcoming events.
