Clonakilty Brewing Company is getting ready for a hot and thirsty summer with the launch of a limited edition ‘I Love Clonakilty’ ale and a new ‘Thirsty Frank’ special due to be launched in July.
With a revamped tasting room, tours have already started every Friday afternoon at the brewery. The ‘Summer at the Brewery’ programme will include a range of unusual and interesting experiences for beer lovers, from a brewery jazz session (August 7) to a Chocolate and Beer Experience in association with Clonakilty Chocolate (July 12 and September 13, as part of Taste of West Cork).
The quirky programme also includes a Movie Night at the Brewery with an Orson Welles classic (July 18) and Brewhouse Concert with The Vespertine Quintet (July 25). More events will be announced over the summer including a very special session focusing on Tojo and the incident that inspired that beer.
Tickets for all events to be booked in advance online at www.clonakiltybrew.ie or from the booking office at Little Green Dot, 15 Ashe St, Clonakilty.
As well as being very busy with private tours, Clonakilty Brewing has been supplying a lot of weddings and other events with personalised beers. This service is very unique and labels can be created to match wedding stationery and so on.
Clonakilty Brewing Company has a core range of three beers: Tojo American Pale Ale, Smuggler Irish Porter and Inchydoney Blond Belgian Wit.
Brewer Frank Fredriksen moved to Clonakilty from Norway with his family in 2013. Inspired by recipes from Norway’s long tradition of brewing and, fortuitously, Clonakilty’s history as a brewery town, Clonakilty Brewing Company was born.
Frank is passionate about making beer with no compromises, brewing small batches with big personality. Using locally sourced grains, the best hops and water from his own well, all of the beers are handcrafted with care in the Brewhouse in Clonakilty.
“We are very keen on working on interesting collaborations in many different areas, for example food,” explains Frank. “The Chocolate and Beer Experience is an example of this; we even gave a talk at the International Chocolate Festival earlier this year. We held a concert (The Clague Brothers) during the last Guitar Festival, which was a great success, and we have also worked with some students in the University of Limerick around label artwork. This makes our work a lot more interesting, so we are open to any new ideas like this. “
Clonakilty Brewing Company are proud sponsors of Clonakilty Street Carnival and the County Mayor’s Masquerade Charity Ball.
