The Courtyard Bar in Clonakilty was delighted this month to learn that it is the only bar in Munster to have been nominated for ‘Outside Space of the Year’ in the prestigious ‘Bar of the Year’ Awards. An expert panel of industry professionals including training, service, food and tourism representatives drew up the shortlist from which a winner will be announced at gala event in Dublin in October.

This award category recognises the bar with the most impressive outside space/beer garden; judges pay particular attention to atmosphere, capacity, location, noise levels, drink selection and availability of outdoor heaters. This nomination was the icing on the cake for The Courtyard Bar after a phenomenally successful summer season in its newly redesigned and expanded outdoor courtyard.

While staff members are keeping fingers crossed for good news at the awards ceremony in Dublin, they are busy preparing for the upcoming Cider Fest, which takes place exclusively at The Courtyard Bar from September 5 to 14. An opportunity to sample new and traditional ciders whilst enjoying live sport and music, this festival promises to provide many memorable nights during it’s two week run.

Two official tasting events will take place during the Cider Fest: a Symond’s Dry Cider (new to the bar) tasting on September 5 and a Koppaberg Tasting on September 12. However during the entire fortnight, pints and pint bottles of all ciders are priced at just €4 so it’s a great opportunity to try other brands such as Cork brewed Stonewall Cider or Swedish brand Rekorderlig.

Live music with sing alongs will get the party started on weekend nights and of course the All Ireland Hurling Final is smack in the middle of the Fest – with two large HD projectors you’ll miss none of the action at The Courtyard Bar.
