Following the success of last year’s inaugural Cork Open Backgammon Tournament, this year’s event takes place from March 4 to 6 in O’Donovan’s Hotel, Clonakilty.

Entrants for the Cork Open Main Tournament (64-player limit) must register on-line by February 29. For those not entering the Main Tournament, there are numerous stand-alone Knockout Competitions for Novices, Players and Experts respectively on Friday, March 4; along with the Clonakilty Shootout on Saturday, March 5; and the Clonakilty Knockout and the ‘Last Chance’ Knockout on Sunday, March 6.

Local craftsman Murray Heasman has been commissioned to produce a set of eight mounted Celtic knot weaves (pictured above) — one for the main tournament winner, and one for the winner of each of the seven knockout competitions taking place over the weekend. The trophies are sponsored by Baan Sujjitra Thai Restaurant, Clonakilty.
